Weight Loss - The Benefits

Weight Loss - The Benefits

Have you ever interacted with people who are physically big or large as you, but we are proud of themselves for having shed a few pounds? Although they appear to be overweight, they actually have lost some weight. This begs the question, what exactly is considered as weight loss and what are its benefits? Benefits of weight loss are not reserved for those who lose 30, 70 or 100kgs, losing only 10kgs or 5 kgs can reduce the likelihood of being affected by diseases that occur due to overweight. It seems modest but has a big impact. Losing weight has health benefits that have to do with the physiological state of the body, the psychological benefits that mostly involve how the individual feels about themselves, as well as social benefits involving society view the person who has lost weight.

Health benefits

Improves sleep

Have you ever had the chance to sleep in the same room with someone who snores? There are many theories that attempt to explain why people of the snow, but when it comes to overweight people, who tend to have more soft tissue in the neck that increases the incidence of snoring. Snoring can be a symptom of a life-threatening condition called sleep apnea, where breathing becomes completely clogged and needs someone to wake up to start breathing again. Most of the time people affected can not remember that they awoke several times during sleep. This sleep deprivation and oxygen has health effects that include a compromised immune system, heart disease, high blood pressure and memory problems.

Therefore, weight loss reduces the amount of fat tissue in the back of the throat and reduces snoring. Maintaining a healthy weight promotes better sleep quality and reduces the risk of sleep apnea.

Healthy Heart

We all know that the heart is a vital organ for human survival, and weight loss helps in ensuring you stay healthy. Being overweight causes the liver to produce excessive amounts of LDL (low density cholesterol). The accumulation of excess body fat releases certain chemicals that occur naturally in the bloodstream that causes blood pressure to rise. LDL tends to accumulate in the walls of blood vessels leading to the narrowing of the arteries and increases the risk of heart attacks and strokes.

Therefore, weight loss reduces the amount of LDL in liver which in turn produces lower blood pressure.

Preventing type 2 diabetes

Excess weight makes it difficult for cells to respond to insulin because excess fat acts as an insulating layer, making it more difficult for sugar to move into cells and which results in circulating sugar levels higher blood. Weight loss reduces these risks. Weight loss of 7% or even moderate physical activity can prevent or delay the onset of diabetes.

Healthy joints

Being overweight increases the load placed on the weight-bearing joints, such as knees and hips. It is estimated that a force of between 3-6 times your body weight is exerted through the knee when walking, so that losing weight reduces the risk of joint pain and disappear cartilage (the tissue protects the joints).

Improves fertility

Excess weight during pregnancy has been reported to increase rates of miscarriage and medical complications which may include pregnancy-induced hypertension, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia just to name a few. Deliveries in overweight women have been reported to be complicated by the highest levels of induction of labor, cesarean birth and difficult due to the increased size of the baby. Babies born to overweight women are more likely to require admission to neonatal intensive care and to have congenital abnormalities. Lose weight or maintain a healthy weight is very important for pregnant women because it will help prevent all these problems.

Psychological Benefits

Better sense of self

I'm not trying to imply that everyone who is overweight has self-esteem issues, but you have to agree with me that if you are in a circle of friends that a person is overweight and is reflected in their body size tend to admire his other friends that are smaller.

Being overweight is associated with a negative stigma and these people often are subject to negative stereotypes. This may include, to be seen as lazy, greedy and weak-willed. This stigma leads these people to have low self-esteem and body esteem, depressive symptoms and poor quality of life. Weight loss helps to improve psychological outcomes and in turn these improvements may increase the possibility of maintaining a program of successful weight loss.

Sense of achievement

I've never been through the process of losing weight, whether it is going to the gym, go for a morning run specifically for the purpose of losing weight, but I have close friends and family to go through that. A lot of discipline and determination to go through this process is required. After putting in all that effort and actually managing to shed off a few pounds, even I feel a great sense of accomplishment, right?

Reduce depression

While exercise for the purpose of losing weight, physical activity involved increases the level of chemicals mood elevation in the brain.

Sexuality

Research shows that heavier people have more sexual difficulties, loss of desire and poor body image. Losing weight can improve arousal, orgasm, lubrication, and sexual satisfaction in women.

Social benefits

Unfortunately, society has these standards you expect each individual to satisfy even the issue of weight, although it depends on the culture.
